Tukuni - A Tale of Traditional Tastes

Guided Tour of Organic Farm including Pest Management Practices, Composting, Hands On Planting and Beekeeping Principals (30minutes) Identification of local medicinal plants and tasting of these as herbal teas with presentation on how to grow them, their health benefits and culinary usage. The experience will include traditional medicinal roots like yaqona, layalaya and turmeric as well as herbs like lemongrass, kaffir lime, rosemary and superfood moringa! Drying process using a solar dryer will also be on display (90 minutes) Hands on Cooking Demonstration of Traditional Fijian Cooking that include lovo, charcoal seafood (ika tavu), making and tasting of salads using local flavors (45 minutes) round up with a Traditional Fijian Lunch.

Things to bring

Recommended Dress code shorts/skirts and Polo or T-shirts, something cool. Bring along your cameras and Currency for those who may want to shop or purchase souvenirs. Ladies with short skirts/ shorts may carry a sarong with them for the village visit and wearing of caps/hats is not allowed in the village.

Expectations: Expect a moderate amount of walking, 2-3 hours of walking each day. There will be time to rest on the coach and between attractions. To enjoy this tour, you should be prepared to walk slightly longer distances, climb stairs and tolerate periods of standing, for example on city walks, sightseeing stops or ship excursions. The daily pace and timing can fluctuate significantly between longer and shorter travel days, with additional activities possibly occurring in the early morning or evening. There may be some changes in altitude or temperatures.
